Five tips to keep your car interior clean

November 4th, 2016 by

Keeping the interior of your car clean is one of the best ways to ensure your vehicle looks like it just rolled off the lot. At Hebert's Town And Country Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram in Shreveport, Louisiana, we want to give you a few tips on how to keep the interior of your car sparkling.

1. Try not to eat in the car.

We know, it’s tempting when you’re on a time crunch to get from point A to point B to run by the drive-thru, or to scarf a granola bar on the way to work. But even if you think you managed to eat a meal in the car without making a mess, remember that crumbs always fall into the nooks and crannies.

2. But if you have to munch, clean up after yourself.

It can be tempting to stash those granola bar wrappers in the door pocket or throw receipts and gum wrappers in the back seat, but taking a few extra seconds to pick up can save time in long run. Not only will you not have to do a major cleanup once the trash piles gets too large, but following this tip will lend to less time vacuuming the interior and more time for other activities.

3. Keep a small bin or sack for trash.

Even if you throw out your trash every night after work, keeping a small bin or sack inside the car is a good habit to form. Having a designated spot for trash can keep you from accidentally spilling the remnants of your soda on the leather seats and can especially come in handy during a road trip or long drive.

4. Keep clothes in the closet.

If you have to carry an overnight bag for a trip or parka because the forecast calls for an afternoon shower, stash them in the trunk. Storing wardrobe items in the trunk will declutter the passenger and back seats as well as keeping valuables hidden.

5. Periodically wash floor mats.

As much as you try to fight it, dirt, grass and sludge – and if you’re a parent, Cheerios and Goldfish – always end up crushed into the floor. Whether you have plastic or upholstered floor mats, cleaning them regularly, even if you just throw them in the wash or quickly wipe them down, can extend the life of your mats.
