Let Us Help You Find the Perfect New Vehicle
If you’re anything like us, you may often feel a strong desire to give back to a community that has given you so much. However, we know it can be a bit overwhelming to get started. That’s why we’ve compiled the following list of great ways you can volunteer your time and get involved in the Shreveport community.
Shreveport Volunteer Network
The Shreveport Volunteer Network was officially formed as a charity organization on June 30, 2020, and specializes in community-led emergency relief. Co-founders Keith Bryant and Tommy Giles started the organization after witnessing their community’s remarkable response to a severe thunderstorm that caused significant damage to their neighborhood.
The network now works to gather donations, distribute food and supplies, and assist victims of damaging weather or other emergencies. There are numerous ways to volunteer with the Shreveport Volunteer Network, from helping with disaster response efforts to participating in community fundraising events.
The City Marshal’s Office
The City of Shreveport and the City Marshal have several partnerships and projects that are always looking for volunteers. One initiative is the Marshal’s Reading Program, which encourages young elementary school students to read more and use their imaginations. Another is the D.A.R.E. curriculum, a program that helps prevent drug use by teaching core skills needed for safe and responsible choices. The City Marshal also runs the Re-Entry Program, which helps incarcerated individuals prepare for their release and reintegrate into society as productive citizens.
As you can see, there are a lot of ways this office is impacting Shreveport and its surrounding community. Reach out to the City Marshal’s office to learn more about how you can volunteer and make a difference.
How to Maintain Your Car’s Resale Value
Caddo Parish Animal Services
Caddo Parish Animal Services is an open-admission animal shelter, which means they never turn away a homeless animal. Their goal is to reunite lost pets with their owners — when that’s not possible, they work hard to find them loving new homes. The shelter is always looking for volunteers, and there are two different ways you can get involved.
The first type of volunteer signs up to work about three hours a week during a specific time block, usually helping with adoption events and other special activities. The second way to volunteer is to simply visit the shelter at any time and offer to help. These volunteers clean adoption areas, socialize animals, and assist with training.
SPAR: Shreveport Public Assembly & Recreation
Shreveport Public Assembly & Recreation (SPAR) is dedicated to enhancing parks, athletic facilities, community centers, and more throughout our hometown. They constantly need volunteers to help facilitate the programs and events offered to the city’s citizens and visitors. Volunteers can assist with after-school programs, senior activities, the Park Advisory Council, and various other activities. Volunteering with SPAR is an excellent way to meet new people and become more familiar with the community programs offered in our area.
Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana
The mission of the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana is to fight hunger in a seven-parish region, including Caddo, Bossier, Bienville, Claiborne, DeSoto, Red River, and Webster. The organization receives almost 18,000 hours of volunteer help every year, but additional volunteers are always needed.
You can contribute by sorting and packing food boxes, organizing a food drive, working at one of their local offices, setting up special events, and more. Volunteering at the Food Bank is a meaningful way to support your neighbors in need.
