The Ram 1500 EcoDiesel has amassed quite a loyal following in its nine-year run. When it was first introduced in 2014, the 3.0-liter Ram EcoDiesel V6 delivered class-leading torque and had the best EPA-recorded fuel efficiency for a half-ton pickup. It only improved through the years; it was last updated in 2020, peaking at 480 pound feet of torque, 260 horsepower, and a 12,560-pound towing capacity. This final generation of the EcoDiesel engine will only be available in the Tradesman Crew Cab, Big Horn/Lone Star, Laramie, Limited Longhorn, and Limited Edition rigs with four-wheel drive.

The 1500’s 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 is being dropped so that Ram can focus on keeping up with efficiency innovations and the electric vehicle market. Ram CEO Mike Koval Jr. stated in a press release, “Our Ram EcoDiesel V-6 engine has delighted consumers with the highest half-ton diesel torque rating and towing capability, while being the first to exceed 1,000 miles of range. As we quickly pivot toward an electrified future, we wanted to celebrate this last EcoDiesel milestone by offering our loyal light-duty diesel enthusiasts a final opportunity to order the truck they love.”

The brand is looking to release its Ram 1500 BEV sometime in 2024, but this has yet to be confirmed. Follow the link below to read about Stellantis’s (Ram’s parent company, formerly Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) current electric vehicle lineup:
